Types Of Hearing Aids

While it would be nice to suppose that all hearing aid types are the same, that is hardly the case. The device that can be used is often dictated by both the level of hearing loss that is being experienced and therefore the age of the wearer. This is not to say that a young child could not use any of these types, it’s simply a matter of will it end up getting lost or not.

Completely in the canal or CIC hearing aids are hearing aids that are barely detectible. They are of course the littlest of any of the types, but with that size comes some sacrifices. The amplifiers are not very good and they cost quite a bit because of the convenience of the size. They’re usually only meant for people that have mild hearing issues.

One step up from that is the ITC or in the canal hearing aid. While people can see these, they’re really going to have to look to notice. They’re slightly larger than the CIC, but still don’t supply enough amplification for individuals that have significant hearing loss.

ITE or in the ear hearing aids are much larger than either of the first two and because of this they can amplify more sounds. They’re capable of holding larger sound amplifiers that makes them ideal for those that have more significant hearing loss. These types of hearing aids are easier to handle because of their size.

The largest and final type of hearing aid is the BTE or behind the ear. This virtually looks like a Bluetooth device and encompasses a holder that wraps round the ear. They are fairly large compared to the other devices and offer the simplest amplification of any of the four types. For youngsters, this is the best choice.

Adults who are experiencing mild to mid-level hearing loss will have the widest variety of choices when it involves hearing aids. Because of the technology obtainable, they will be able to get the amplification that they need without anyone knowing of their impairment. However, it can all come right down to comfort and fit therefore it is best to try each model to work out which one you are the most comfortable wearing.
